Sword Maintenance Methods

A sword is primarily composed of three parts: the blade, the scabbard, and the fittings.
To facilitate everyone's care and maintenance, here are some essential daily upkeep tips:

  • Storage: Swords should be stored in a dry place.

  • Blade Care: During handling, try to avoid touching the blade with your hands, as fingerprints and sweat can cause rust. After use, or if the sword gets wet or is exposed to humid conditions, wipe it immediately with a clean, dry cloth or soft towel. Afterwards, apply a suitable anti-rust oil (common options include machine oil, sewing machine oil, or specialized anti-rust oil). Always concentrate fully during cleaning to avoid cuts or punctures from the blade.

  • Scabbard Care: You can regularly wipe the wooden scabbard with a soft cloth containing a tiny amount of oil. This helps maintain its luster and prevents cracking or shrinking.

  • Fittings Care: The sword's fittings are often made of materials like gold, silver, or copper, with copper being very common. Therefore, avoid exposure to harsh gases and keep them dry to prevent corrosion of the fittings.
